surgery - Ahwatukee Animal Care HospitalAt Ahwatukee Animal Care Hospital, we always strive to provide the best possible service.  Our surgery suite is an example of our dedication to quality medical care.  We have two surgery bays and are fully equipped with monitoring devices and overhead oxygen.

Our main concern is providing quality medical care safely.  Therefore, before every sedation or surgery, we perform a pre-surgical examination and pre-anesthesia blood work.  This is done in an effort to screen for any hidden health issues or problems that could potentially interfere with a successful surgical outcome.  After your pet has been given a sedative, an IV catheter is inserted. An induction agent is given and your pet is intubated. Sedation is maintained with gas anesthesia. We use the safest gas anesthesia and induction products available and our surgical veterinary technicians will be with your pet from sedation thru induction and surgery, to recovery.

dr
During surgery, your pet will be monitored for blood pressure, heart rate, respiration, blood oxygenation, and temperature, as well as being visually monitored by a technician. Throughout the surgery, your pet's vitals are recorded every five minutes.  After your pet has been moved from the recovery area, our health care team continues to provide the care needed for your pet until the doctor discharges him or her from the hospital and into your care.

catMedical Boarding

Ahwatukee Animal Care Hospital has a medical hospitalization boarding area designed to provide your pet with the best care and supervision if he or she needs to stay at our hospital over night.  This area is the home of our surgery patients and hospitalized patients, as well as our doctor supervised boarders. Our hospitalization boarding area is designed for our patients that are recuperating from surgery or patients who require closer monitoring, such as for diabetes or allergy treatments, and is within view of the treatment area.  Our veterinary technicians closely monitor hospitalized pets and ensure your pet receives his or her medication.  They monitor your pet's mood, appetite, fluid intake, and elimination patterns, as well as his or her medical status during their stay.  Any change in your pet's status is immediately brought to the attention of the doctor so that your pet's doctor is always aware of your pet's progress. Our veterinarians are always available to check on boarding pets should any need arise.

We also have an isolation ward to provide separate, comfortable, sanitary rooms where any pets suffering from a contagious condition are hospitalized.  Healthcare team members who enter this ward to provide care will always wear protective garments and shoe covers in order to protect the isolation ward patients from any outside germs and to prevent the contagious germs inside the ward from being carried outside of isolation.  Our staff takes extra precautions in caring for these patients in order to keep the rest of the hospital safe from disease.

Meals are prepared in our kitchen for our hospitalized patients.  All dishes are washed and sanitized before and after each meal.  if your pet requires a bath, our sunny bathing room is used for bathing your pet.

Ahwatukee Animal Care Hospital is not staffed continuously 24 hours per day.  Although our boarding animal caretakers come and go throughout the evening and night hours as well as Saturday afternoon  and Sundays, no medical staff is on the premises on a regular basis after business hours.  If a pet is hospitalized overnight, a doctor and/or technician will go in to check on your pet and/or provide treatment; however, they cannot be continuously monitored around the clock at our hospital. In the event your pet requires 24 hour observational care, our doctors will inform you of trusted facilities to which we can transfer your pet.  if your pet is transferred, we will send you with any necessary medications, medical notes, and test results.  Because the health of your pet is our top priority, we will always present you with all of your options so that you can make an informed decision.
